Local Law 26/04 and Sprinklers

The devastating terrorist attacks of 2001 left an indelible mark on the construction code in New York City.  Fatalities would have been smaller, critics argued after the attacks, wouldn’t have died had the Twin Towers been built differently.  In response to this criticism, then-Mayor Bloomberg signed Local Law 26 of 2004, which instituted more than fifteen major changes to both the Building Code and the Fire Prevention Code. Schedule B Amendments Not Required for Minor Variations

As part of the Department of Building’s recent efforts to streamline and expedite the building permit process, it made some important changes to the Post-Approval Amendments (PAA) process in 2006.  Previously, all amendments to Schedule B needed a PAA to be filed, but now “minor variations” to fixture counts don’t need anything filed.

QR Codes and Building Permits

Curious about a project you’ve spotted in development?  No need to look the details of the permit up on the computer to find out more about the current project.  Following a law passed by former Mayor Bloomberg’s administration in 2013, every permit posting has a scannable QR code on the upper right.  Simply scan the QR code with your phone, and you can instantly learn details such as type of work being done, the job applicant’s name and phone number, complaints, and violations.  You can even easily make a complaint of your own through the accompanying app, should you so choose.  In addition to general work permits, QR codes will also be posted on After Hours Variances and Place of Assembly certificates of operations.

 

Basements and Cellars in One- and Two-Family Dwellings
